Why You Should Watch Cougar Town Tonight

I really love Cougar Town. It's not just a show for chicks, it's a show for awesome people everywhere! Maybe my husband wouldn't approve of me sharing this with you, but he actually enjoys Cougar Town.

Finally, the producers got smart and started to make fun of the name, because the name, Cougar Town, has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the plot of the show. So, it's understandable that it's a turnoff for some viewers. However, I highly recommend that you give it a shot, and here's why:

1. The show is about 40 somethings that still party on a regular basis. It gives me hope that I'll still be getting it in long after my 20s. I mean, lets face it, they are living the dream (they don't seem to really work a lot, and they have an awful lot of free time to hang out, if we could all be so lucky).

2. A central theme of the show is... wait for it... WINE. Lots and lots of red wine. In fact, the main character , Jules (Courtney Cox) always has a glass that fits at least one entire bottle of wine. I need to find a glass like that. I shall name him Big Papi.

3. Ellie Torres (the main character's feisty best friend, who lives next door) is my idol. She's sarcastic, cold and witty, but underneath her tough exterior she's a sweetheart. Her husband is also the nicest man in the world who somehow puts up with her crazy.

4. They play adult drinking games, there's "penny can" and "gun to the head" and all sorts of other little made up games that keep their interactions interesting. These have proven to be useful games in my everyday life.

5. You will laugh. There are very few television shows out there that really make me laugh. I'm talking deep down in your belly, tears leaking out the eyeballs, laugh. Modern Family used to be one I could count on to make me laugh, but for some reason I find it too predictable now and therefore not as funny.

No, Cougar Town and its affiliates are not paying me to say this, although I really wish they were. I'm giving you this list out of pure selfishness. It is my hope that you will watch it, TONIGHT at 10 p.m. on TBS. Put a reminder on your calendar. Now.

Because if you watch, then maybe, just maybe it will last for another season or so. As I mentioned, Cougar Town is now on TBS (they were formerly on ABC after Modern Family), and I'm scared for its future. TBS is the land of syndicated reruns and Tyler Perry drama/comedies (does anyone actually watch those?) In other words, it's not the land where sitcoms go to make their mark on television history. Alas, I will be there watching (with or without you), and hopefully laughing until I can't catch my breath.
