Post-Wedding Depression is Legit

I knew it would happen to me. I saw it coming a mile away, and yet, I still wasn't prepared. Post-wedding depression smacked me in the face the moment I stepped foot on U.S. soil after my honeymoon.

Let me back up, I LOVED planning my wedding and I genuinely enjoyed every single part of it. Don't get me wrong, there were some stressful moments, but I never hit that point where I thought, "I'm tired of planning and just want to have the wedding already!" My absolute favorite part of the process was the browsing and dreaming. With thousands of wedding blogs and an entire wedding section on Pinterest (see my Wedding Board), you can get lost for hours just looking at beautiful, unique, and really personal weddings. Needless to say, I spent far too much of my free time after work and between gym sessions browsing, getting ideas, and envisioning our special day.

Once the wedding was over BryGuy and I would reflect on how awesome the day was, recapping our favorite moments. Pictures started coming in from friends and family that allowed us to relive the day while on our honeymoon. Once we returned from vacation I started to face the grim reality that awaited me, I was going to have to go back to "life as usual." I had no big event to look forward to anymore, no blissful vacation to talk about, and I started to get really sad. That’s when I knew that post-wedding depression was a real thing. But I’m determined to snap out of this in a timely fashion.

So I’ve put some things in motion in an attempt to pull out of this funk:

  1. Start a blog. With a new project to focus on, I’ll have something I can be dedicated to that will fill the void of browsing wedding blogs.
  2. Recommit to fitness. I was an avid crossfitter prior to the wedding, and I don’t want that to stop just because the wedding ended. I’m actually determined to get into the best shape of my life AFTER my wedding.
  3. Make new plans to look forward to. Whether its a mini weekend getaway in November or our annual trip to Puerto Rico in the spring. BryGuy and I are trying to develop a roster of things to look forward to. The hubby is also looking into some black tie events so he has a reason to wear his wedding tux again.
  4. Cook. For me, cooking fever comes and goes. But I find that when I’m stressed or anxious that just getting back in the kitchen and focusing on making a delicious meal just takes my mind off of everything else.
  5. Apartment hunt. The hubby and I are not ready to buy, but we feel like we’ve outgrown our one-bedroom apartment. While our home is amazing for entertaining, it does not have nearly enough closet space, and we are constantly fighting over the bathroom in the mornings. We’d also like to be able to have guests come visit (hint, hint parents) and not have to sleep on a blow-up mattress in our living room. So we’re on the hunt for a two-plus bedroom apartment.

It also feels good to know that I’m not alone, a recent blog article on the Huffington Post wedding section talks about how to get over the post-wedding blues. I think I’m following some of that advice!

  1. Apartment hunting can be super fun! I love looking at the model units! I'm hunting right now as well.

  2. I'm with you sister! Post-wedding blues came and went. But I still have days where the only solace is clicking through wedding photos and reminiscing lol.

  3. It's remarkable to pay a visit this web site and reading the views of all mates regarding this article, while I am also eager of getting experience.
